Book Signing and Discussion of Local Churches Burned During the Revolution

April 24 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Explore history through the tales of local church burnings during the war with local historian Bill Segars.

Bill’s file of churches exceeded 700 when he encountered Jim’s book Historical United Methodist Churches and Places in South Carolina.  A phone call by Bill to Jim started a two year partnership of sharing research and information in order to compile this Colonial South Carolina history book.

This book is subtitled A Pictorial Guide, but it could have justifiably been named A Pictorial Journey as the writers take you on the back roads of South Carolina.  You will find beautiful color photographs of each site and many other related historical sites, directions, even GPS coordinates. As a building contractor, Bill has shared some of his knowledge and insight into the construction practices of the period.  In doing so, he hopes to answer some of your questions concerning churches built in the 18th century.

In addition, the authors have included information on what happened at each site.  You will find that history may not always as presented and that we are still learning about these church buildings.   Our hope is that by bringing these churches to you through this book, you will have a greater appreciation of their history and join others who see this history as part of our future.
